Moving your Plants to a New Home in Delhi

For many of us, our indoor garden is a peaceful spot from the outside world and our source of joy. You’ve spent years taking care of your plants and you simply cannot afford to leave your dearest plants behind when moving home.

Thankfully, plants can be relocated with a good amount of planning whenever moving home.

We have put together a guide to ensure your plants are properly taken care of while being relocated.

Before the move.
  • A week before moving, repot your plants into shatterproof plastic containers to ensure bumps or jerks don’t damage the pots or scatter the soil. Repotting may not work for all plant categories, and it’s better to seek an opinion from a nursery expert.
  • Prune bigger plants for compact packing and shred off dried leaves or extra branches. This process also promotes fresh growth of branches at the new premises.
  • Uproot your small outdoor plants with their roots intact. Place them in plastic pots laid with moist soil.
  • For delicate plants such as cacti and succulents, place the pots in a box cushioned with bubble wrap or crumpled paper.
  • For large trees consider carrying their cuttings wrapped in wet moss and newspaper. Place the cuttings in unsealed bags and place it into a box layered with soft packing materials. Punch tiny holes in the boxes to allow air and sunlight inside. This way, the cuttings survive days of travel and would be ready to root in new soil.
  • Remember to always pack your plants a day prior moving and spray only a little water over them to prevent fungus growth. Weed off insects or parasites if any before packing them.
After the move
  • Upon reaching your destination, immediately unwrap your plants, sprinkle some water and replant them as soon as possible.
  • Be careful not to break off delicate stems when removing packaging materials or transplanting them into fresh soil.
  • Once planted, shower your plants with water, sunlight and nutrients daily for them to adapt well in their new surroundings.
Plants do take some days to recover from the relocation. Some may shed their leaves or wilt. However, with proper care they gradually start thriving in their new environment where you can relish the greenery again.
